Vegetables
Basket of VeggiesThe Biodynamic farmer strives for the creation of a whole farm organism. The farm depends on a minimum of input nutrients from outside the farm and, ideally, generates its own fertility through cover-cropping and the use of manure from animals that live on the farm. With very limited inputs from outside the farm, the farm has a very low carbon footprint.

You can taste it –our vegetables taste like they should taste, fresh and nutrient dense.

SEASON STARTS MID JUNE

There are different ways to get our veggies:
- at the Farm during our opening hours
(online orders only at this time)

Please click
here to get to our online farm store.

- at the Farmers Market in Fort Collins starting ....

- through our CSA program

Please find in the tables below what to expect when.

Join our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program and get your vegetable share.
A share is a portion of the weekly vegetable harvest. One share of vegetables is intended to average 7 lbs of vegetable plus greens. The summer and winter season are each 18 weeks. We plan to begin summer shares in June and the winter shares in October. You will be notified by your site coordinator one week before the actual start date. Traditionally, members pay for their CSA memberships in full, up front, which provides the much needed cash flow for the farmers to prepare, plant and harvest their crops.  However, Cresset Farm has a flexible payment plan (only applies before the season starts). If you join after the season has started already your payments will be prorated.

Pastured Eggseggs

Our hens roam freely outdoors and lay eggs with twice as much Vitamin E and Omega-3 fatty acids as hens raised in cages. The eggs also have a third of the cholesterol. They are richer in antioxidants; including vitamins E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. Furthermore, they do not contain traces of added hormones, antibiotics or other drugs-because our animals don’t do drugs.

Eggs from hens raised outdoors on pasture have from three to six times more vitamin D than eggs from hens raised in confinement. Pastured hens are exposed to direct sunlight, which their bodies convert to vitamin D and then pass on to the eggs.

Vitamin D is best known for its role in building strong bones. New research shows that it can also enhance the immune system, improve mood, reduce blood pressure, combat cancer, and reduce the risk of some autoimmune disorders.

Note that this benefit comes only from hens that are free to graze fresh greens, eat bugs, and bask in the sun. Most of the eggs sold in the supermarket do not meet this criterion. Even though the label says that the eggs are “certified organic” or come from “uncaged” or “free-range” hens or from hens fed an “all-vegetarian” diet, this is no guarantee that the hens had access to the outdoors or pasture.
This latest good news about eggs comes from a study just released by
Mother Earth News, a magazine that plays a leading role in promoting health-enhancing, natural foods. The editors found that eating just two eggs will give you from 63-126% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin D.

We sell a dozen of our delicious eggs for $ 6.

Raw Milk Share
raw milkIn Colorado, the only way to obtain fresh raw milk is through a cowherd share program. To participate, you buy an undivided "share" of the herd. In return, you receive a portion of the milk. Essentially, you own a portion of the herd, and the participating farm will board the animals on your behalf.

At Cresset Community Farm, the cows are pasture fed as long as conditions permit. When the cows are unable to feed in the open pasture, they are kept in corrals, well bedded, and fed hay, straw, and vegetables grown on the farm using biodynamic/organic methods.

A share provides approximately one gallon of milk per week. This amount can vary depending on the season. There are approximately 3 months from mid December to mid March when there is no milk. We do offer a cooperation with Windsor Dairy for those months.

One share in the cowherd costs $40. A half-share costs $20. You will sign a bill of sale and a boarding contract. The boarding fee of $32 a month is paid on a quarterly basis. The milk bottle deposit amount varies from $8-$24 depending on the number of bottles you will use. The cost for the share in the herd and the bottle deposit is refundable when you leave the program.

There are two ways to receive your milk weekly. You may pick up the milk from the farm directly by arrangement with the farmers or join a milk co-op. There are currently three driving co-ops in Boulder and Denver. Each member of the co-op takes turns driving to the farm to return the cooler and empty jars from the previous week and to deliver the milk to the pick-up site.

When you leave the program, you sell your share back to the farm for its original purchase price. When you return your jars you will receive your milk bottle deposit.

Cresset Farm Beef

cowCurrently we have 11 cows (Milking Devon, Shorthorn crosses, Ayrshire, Jersey crosses). Our bull is called Jupiter (Ayrshire) and 2 years old. We have four two-year old (2 steers, 2 heifers) and twelve one-year old ( 6 steers, 6 heifers), as well as 8 calves.
The cows are pasture and hay fed without hormones or antibiotics and are allowed to range on pasture all spring, summer and fall.
We offer beef on a regular basis from our own herd. Our butcher slaughters the animals here on the farm and then takes them to an USDA-approved facility in Loveland to cut, package and freeze the meat. You may purchase the whole, half or quarter of the animal.

Please email beef@cressetfarm.com or call (970) 278-0499 for more information.
